Frequently Asked Questions

What is precision?
Precision is the ability to produce the same test result over and over again. Precision is determined by Reproducibility (R) and Repeatability (r)

What are ASTM standards?
ASTM International is an industry organization that defines standards for a variety of industries including Petroleum Products and Lubricants.

ASTM Standards for petroleum include a description of the test instrument, manufacturer model number and operation procedure. To meet global petroleum quality benchmarks, the world’s major refineries must certify product to ASTM standards. For more information: www.astm.org

Phase Technology meets and complies with numerous ASTM standards.

What is desiccant?
Desiccant is a hydrophilic light tan granular material used inside a bottle mounted on the rear of the analyzer. This material used to remove moisture from the purge system.

What is Drysac?
Drysac is a desiccant which can be used to remove water from hydrocarbon jet fuel samples prior to testing. Drysac does not remove hydrocarbon components, and has no effect on the hydrocarbon feeezing point. The use of drysac is consistent with good sampling procedures to obtain a bright and clear sample.

In certain samples, using Drysac improves repeatability; some labs however may not be concerned about water content. Therefore the decision to use Drysac is completely up to the individual lab user.

Drysac is available from Phase Technology (catalogue # DRP-06C, sold in cans of 600 sacs/can) at order @ phase-technology.com

What is “False Warming?”
“False warming” in freeze point testing occurs when a result implies that a contaminant is present in the sample, when in fact it is not.

In testing aviation fuels, the consequence of false warming (or false positive) is the erroneous perception that the product is off-specification, though in reality such is not the case.

False Warming is an important issue:

Unlike other analyzers, Phase Technology's 70X does NOT exhibit false warming characteristics.

Can I connect LIMS to my Phase Technology analyzer?
LIMS can be connected to Phase Technology’s 70X series of lab analyzers with our LIMS interface (catalogue # LIMS-70X).

Are Phase Technology products CSA certified?
Phase Technology products can be CSA certified if you require, contact us for more information.
