Norman Tsang
Founder

Norman Tsang has been responsible for growing the business from its inception in 1989, to its current position as market leader.

Before co-founding Phase Technology, Norman applied his skills at many major international organizations. He was part of a pioneer team that developed the data network transport protocol which became the backbone for internet communication services.

Norman was the software development team leader for the first military GPS and refueling aircraft display system used by the Canadian Armed Forces. He served as a consultant to the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank, helping to build the data network which serves as a vital infrastructure for the U.S. banking system.

Norman graduated in Computing Science from the University of Alberta. He continued his education there in the Master of Science program, majoring in Artificial Intelligence.

 

Charles Tsang
Founder

Charles Tsang is the holder of over 30 patents for inventions that detect phase transition and assess cold flow properties of fuels and lubricating oils, measurements that are critical to the industry. His ongoing research forms the basis for the ASTM test methods used in all Phase Technology analyzers.

Prior to starting the company in 1989, Charles was professionally engaged in engineering and technical research at Texaco and Nova Corporation. During this time, he refined the methodology that led to the launch of Phase Technology.

Charles' numerous technical contributions have been recognized by his peers in the scientific community and the industry at large. He was presented with an Award of Excellence from the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM).

He is the recipient of a Gold Medal Award from the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) and a Gold Key Award from the Society of Chemical Industries of Canada. Both Charles and his brother, Norman, were awarded an Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2006) from Ethno Business Council of British Columbia.

Charles attended the University of Alberta, receiving bachelor degrees in both Biology and Chemical Engineering. He furthered his academic studies at Cornell University, receiving a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.

 


Senior Management Team

John Taylor-Wilson
Chief Operating Officer (COO)

As Phase Technology’s Chief Operating Officer, John Taylor-Wilson is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the company. He oversees Phase Technology’s day-to-day business activities and internal processes. John drives initiatives in the company’s worldwide sales and marketing, quality assurance, customer service and production.

Skilled in defining key operational strategies and translating them into practical business tactics, John has an internationally proven record of success in creating both revenue and profit performance. With over 20 years of experience in high-tech sales, business development, marketing and business operations, John excels in managing influential relationships and leading teams to deliver bottom line results.

Before joining Phase Technology as its first COO, John was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SmarTire Systems, Richmond, British Columbia. There he was responsible for global sales efforts and for launching three new automotive products. Prior to that, he was the Director of Business Development and Strategic Alliances at Witness Systems, Atlanta, Georgia, where he helped grow the company’s business from $6.5M to $70M in two and half years. John also played a significant role in the development of product concepts that led to the acquisition of Vancouver’s Dees Communications by the global recording giant NICE Systems of Tel Aviv, Israel.

 


Gordon Chiu, Ph.D.
Vice President, Technology

Dr. Gordon Chiu holds the position of Vice President, Technology. In this pivotal role, Gordon oversees technology advancements in support of the entire company, especially in Customer Service and Production. In cooperation with Marketing and Sales, Gordon leads new product development, feature and software enhancements, and usability improvements.

In addition to his work at Phase Technology, Gordon is active in various international standards organizations. He is a technical contact for ASTM Committee D02 on Petroleum Products, a group that has jurisdiction over 580 standards that cover all aspects relating to the standardization of Petroleum Products and Lubricants.

Gordon is the author of numerous published and research studies and white papers. Gordon received an engineering degree (BASc) from the University of British Columbia. He completed his doctorate at Princeton University.

 

Charles Clutter
Director of Marketing

As Marketing Director, Charles Clutter creates and oversees execution of Phase Technology’s strategic marketing and sales programs. He writes and designs the company’s marketing communication materials, including the website.

With a varied career history, Charles has held several senior level marketing, graphic design and copywriting positions. He has worked for international non-profit organizations, web development firms, consumer electronics manufacturers, record labels and music distributors, direct mail catalogers and independent CD retailers.

Charles has a B.S., Business Administration from The Ohio State University with dual majors in marketing and finance. He completed a post-graduate program in Integrated Marketing Communications at Chicago’s DePaul University's Kellstadt Graduate School of Business in Chicago.

 


Darrel Seskin
International Sales Manager

Darrel Seskin, Phase Technology’s International Sales Manager, is responsible for sales in all territories excluding the U.S. He forms win-win relationships directly with our corporate customers and sales agents.

Darrel has over 15 years’ experience leading global sales teams and implementing strategic sales plans. With an educational background in Electrical Engineering, Darrel has worked in the high-tech field throughout his career. As an engineer, Darrel brings value to the sales process with his clear understanding of the technology behind the product.

He has held senior roles with many well know international companies, interfacing with customers and in channel development. He was responsible for setting up the reseller market for Cisco systems in his native South Africa, as well as sales in Europe, the Middle East, Canada and USA. He relocated to Canada with his family 10 years ago.

 


Mike Coelho
Production Manager

In the role of Production Manager, Mike Coelho is responsible for defining and optimizing critical manufacturing processes in all departments, including the implementation of the company’s MRP system.

Mike brings many years of experience managing the full spectrum of manufacturing operations and production. Mike has enjoyed a dynamic career holding several upper level management positions for some of Vancouver’s leading high-tech companies. His specialty is in contract manufacturing relations, in-house production and operations systems improvement.

Mike is a graduate of British Columbia Institute of Technology and has continued to upgrade his skills with continuing education in Business, Quality and Project Management.
